Cardiac problems in children are common in children, sometimes life threating and often not diagnosed properly. Early diagnosis and timely treatment is very important.
Areas of specific interest include child echocardiography including fetal echocardiography, diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization (pediatric cardiac holes closure by device, opening of obstructed cardiac valves by balloons etc).
A Pediatric Cardiologist is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and management of heart conditions in fetuses, neonates, infants, children, adolescents and young adults (up to 18 years).
After completing MBBS and MD (Pediatrics), a Pediatric Cardiologist undergoes additional super-specialty training (FNB / DM Pediatric Cardiology) at recognised institutes to handle congenital heart defects, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, Kawasaki disease, rheumatic heart disease and other cardiac problems unique to children.
