Dr Gaurav Agrawal is a Pediatric Cardiologist (Child and Fetal heart Specialist).

Dr Agrawal is a pediatrician who has specialized training in the treatment of various child heart related problems (neonates to 18 years of age).

He is also having a vast experience in fetal echocardiography.

He is one of the very few pediatricians in India who practices pediatric cardiology exclusively.

Cardiac problems in children are common in children, sometimes life threating and often not diagnosed properly. Early diagnosis and timely treatment is very important.

Areas of specific interest include child echocardiography including fetal echocardiography, diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization (pediatric cardiac holes closure by device, opening of obstructed cardiac valves by balloons etc).

A Pediatric Cardiologist is a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and management of heart conditions in fetuses, neonates, infants, children, adolescents and young adults (up to 18 years).

After completing MBBS and MD (Pediatrics), a Pediatric Cardiologist undergoes additional super-specialty training (FNB / DM Pediatric Cardiology) at recognised institutes to handle congenital heart defects, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, Kawasaki disease, rheumatic heart disease and other cardiac problems unique to children.

They perform fetal echocardiography during pregnancy, neonatal echocardiograms, exercise stress tests, holter monitoring and interventional procedures such as device closures and balloon valvuloplasty.

Parents should consult a Pediatric Cardiologist if their child shows any of the following signs and symptoms:

  • Recurrent respiratory tract infections (frequent cold, cough or pneumonia)
  • Fast or difficult breathing, especially while feeding
  • Poor weight gain or failure to thrive
  • Bluish discoloration of lips, tongue or nail beds (cyanosis)
  • Easy fatigability or excessive sweating during feeds
  • Episodes of fainting (syncope) or seizures
  • Palpitations or unusually fast / irregular heart beat
  • Swelling of feet, face or eyelids with breathing difficulty
  • A heart murmur detected by the pediatrician
  • Chest pain or leg pain on exertion
  • Family history of congenital heart disease, sudden cardiac death or genetic syndromes
  • Suspected fetal cardiac abnormality on antenatal ultrasound
